Before You Were Born

When we are born into the world as we know it, we come with absolute dependence on others. We know nothing, we understand nothing, and we own nothing. We immediately cleave to the only familiar one to us which is our mother. We then spend the next several years learning about life, the world, and ourselves. We will do some things right and find success in certain areas as we learn and grow in the gifts that God puts inside of us. We will also certainly do some things wrong, as we learn the harsh lessons that life has a tendency to teach us.

We eventually grow in our friendships and relationships in life. Some of them we succeed in and others we may fail. There will be joy, laughter, and excitement shared with the people in our lives. There will also be sadness, hurt, and disappointments with some of those same people. Sometimes we are the ones who are to be blamed for some of the sadness or disappointments that are experienced by others, even those we love. The reality as that we really don’t know what life will throw at us when we first enter into this world. There is much we don’t know and also that we’ll probably never know. But here’s what God knows,

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

Jeremiah 1:5 (NKJV)

That’s right, before you were even born, God says He knew you. That means that He knew you before every mistake, success, joy, or failure. He knew you before you had a reputation, a nice home, and money in the bank. He also knew you before you formed an addiction, committed a crime, and/or became homeless. The wonderful thing about God is that His original plan for your life doesn’t change.

“For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.”

Romans 11:29 (NKJV)

The literal definition of the word irrevocable is this – not able to be changed, reversed, or recovered; final. God knew about your sins, failures, and bad decisions before you were born…and He still chose you. This means that God’s original purpose and call on your life simply cannot be changed. The only thing that can stop his plan for our lives is our inability or unwillingness to submit ourselves to it. The Bible says,

“For we are labourers together with God…”

1 Corinthians 3:9 (KJV)

God is working with us to fulfill His purpose in our lives and the world at large. He already factored in your leave of absence from the job before he hired you. You may be on leave but we just read that His policy says your job function in His kingdom cannot be eliminated, so let’s get back to work. I believe this is God telling you that the original agreement still stands. His plan for your life is unchanged. It’s now up to you to take your rightful position and tell God – “Yes.”
