“You can have more than you’ve got because you can become more than you are.“
Jim Rohn
I agree with Jim. It is my belief that success can be achieved by anyone, and that includes you. Becoming more really starts with one thing…BELIEF. You must believe in yourself if you are going to achieve success in anything.
Let me tell you a story…
I was in the 2nd grade when I had one of the most important moments in my life that would ultimately shape my mindset from that point on. While at school that day, I was around many of my classmates, and I recall some of the students saying these words about various subjects and challenges…”I CAN’T do it.” It was fine for them to feel that way, but
I expressed my belief about myself and responded each time saying, “I CAN do it.”
It was the only thing I was ever taught, and I learned quickly that even in the 2nd grade those words were quite threatening to those around me. I was accused of being “cocky” and “arrogant” for my bold stance, and I can admit that it really bothered me. Besides, who doesn’t want to be accepted and liked by their peers? What happened next is what I believe changed my life forever.
One Moment Shaped My Life
I went home that afternoon bothered by those words and wondering if I was being unreasonable in my beliefs in myself. As typical, my mother asked me how school went that day and my answer today was a bit different. I told her how I was bothered by the comments at school and was told that I was being arrogant and cocky for saying, “I can do it,” when other kids didn’t think they could. My mother looked me in the eyes, gently grabbing my chin to make sure the eye contact was secured and said,
“Never let anyone make you think you’re wrong for believing in yourself. You’re not cocky, you’re CONFIDENT and that’s not something anyone can take away from you.”
I have never forgotten those words.
Never Stop Believing
My question to you is, “When did you stop believing in yourself?”
It could have been as a young child similar to my story, afraid to stand out from the herd to try and be accepted. Even more often it happens as a teenager or young adult, possibly when a teacher or professor gave you a bad grade on that paper you worked so hard on. Whatever the reasoning, you must begin TODAY believing in yourself again.
